In response to the tragic recent events in Haiti I've put together a fundraiser at our school so that we could both help the victims and teach our children to help others in time of need. Students will participate in a "Hoops for Haiti" event during their regularly scheduled Health and Physical Education classes. Students will elicits donations from family and friends for each basketball shot they make. Our school will work with the American Red Cross to donate the funds to Haitian relief efforts. I've also included a letter to the Harlem Globetrotters inviting them our school to promote the fundraising event.

Dear Harlem Globetrotters,
I’m excited that our school is participating in a very special fundraising event in conjunction with the American Red Cross: “Hoops for Haiti.” I would like to invite you to come to our school to encourage participation in this worthwhile event.
By participating in “Hoops for Haiti,” Blue Bell Elementary School students will join in an important opportunity to learn and help others. Hoops for Haiti will take place in Health and Physical Education class. The students will learn basketball skills and have the opportunity to raise money to help the Haitian people.
Please help our students get involved! Having the Harlem Globetrotters visit our school will surely get our students psyched and ready to help those in need.
We are really thrilled about our “Hoops for Haiti” event and the experience it offers our students. We hope you will support our students’ participation in this educational event.
Sincerely,
Ms. Robin Martino

"BlogOnHPE" is an online journal that discusses health & fitness issues, what is going on in Health & Physical Education class, and other relevant topics (such as field day, etc). The blogs may be viewed by students, teachers, parents, community members and a variety of people across the United States. Our students may respond to a post - make comments on what is discussed - or answer any questions that might have been posed by the post. It offers a great way to interact with our students and get them thinking about fitness even when they are not in Physical Education class.
The blog will keep an ongoing record of HPE lessons, activities, pictures and themes by week, and also keep track of the intramural leagues. There will also be links created to our school Mile of Fame with updates, school records, past fitness award winners, links to other important HPE sites. Future plans include links to weekly updates and pictures of our intramural leagues and other creative motivational ideas for my physical education program.
