Here a few lesson plans to use in Health and Physical Education:

Lesson:
Health: Immune System
Physical Education: Floor Hockey

Objectives:
Health: Students will describe how germs cause health problems and become familiar with personal hygiene practices that promote health and prevent the spread of disease.

Physical Education: Students will learn the rules of dribble knockout, dribble the ball properly and show good sportsmanship and teamwork while participating in the game.

Grade Level: 1

Academic Standards:
10.1.3E - Identify types and causes of common health problems of children

10.2.3A - Identify personal hygiene practices and community helpers at promote health and prevent the spread of disease

10.4.3A – Identify and engage in physical activities that promote physical fitness and health

10.5.3.A – Recognize and use basic movement skills and concepts

10.5.3F – Recognize and describe game strategies using appropriate vocabulary

Materials Needed: Hockey sticks, balls

Lesson Outline:
Warm Up, explanation and demonstration of dribbling and hockey game, health review of causes and prevention of illness

Lesson: Immune System Structure and Function

Purpose: Students will be able to explain the immune system’s structure and function

Grade Level: 5

Academic Standard: 10.1.6B, 10.2.6A

Materials Needed: Projector, Mac, Internet, http://www.e-learningforkids.org/Courses/Liquid_Animation/Body_Parts/Immune_System/index.html

Description: After reviewing the website students will discuss the immune system’s structure and function

Assessment: Group discussion

Lesson:

Purpose: Students will analyze nutritional concepts that impact health such as caloric content of foods, relationship of food intake and physical activity, nutrient requirements and healthful food selection by using an interactive computer game on mypyramid.gov

Grade Level: 5

Academic Standard: 10.1.6C Analyze nutritional concepts that impact health

Materials Needed: Macs, Internet, mypyramid.gov

Description: Students will reach planet power by filling their rocket ship with the correct food choices and physical activity needed daily.

Assessment: Rocket ship will launch if correct food choices and physical activity were entered.

  2. For some reason others who have tried to comment have been blocked even though I have an open option on who can.

  3. Spoke to Wendy and she okayed not having 3 post from others as when the others went to post a comment they were blocked. Perhaps they needed to create a profile in Google or another account first. At the time Wendy had not come across this problem. She said the requirements were fulfilled on this assignment without the other comments.
